Dear MR / MRS Congressperson leave the BCS alone

One of the great things about New Years day is watching the traditional college football games and relaxing and recovering from the revelry of the night before.

The BCS ( Bowl champion series ) was instituted in 1998 by the 6 major conferences of college football to " crown " a national championship. It has been a imperfect system to say the least. But generally it has produced very good games to watch on the Monday after New Years day to enjoy and sit back and watch two very good teams battle it out to see who is champ!!!

Now Congress wants to get involved to help fix any problems or perceived slights in the system ...........

Rep. Joe Barton of Texas, the ranking Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, didn't specify what sort of playoff he wants -- only that the BCS should go.

"In some years the sport's national championship winner was left unsettled, and at least one school was left out of the many millions of dollars in revenue that accompany the title," Barton said in a statement released ahead of the bill's introduction. "Despite repeated efforts to improve the system, the controversy rages on."

He said the bill -- being co-sponsored by Reps. Bobby Rush, an Illinois Democrat, and Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican -- "will prohibit the marketing, promotion, and advertising of a postseason game as a 'national championship' football game, unless it is the result of a playoff system. Violations of the prohibition will be treated as violations of the Federal Trade Commission Act as an unfair or deceptive act or practice."

Now I'm all for our friendly congresspeople trying to help out us plebs whenever possible.

BUT REALLY!!!!!! What in the Hell are you thinking??????!!!!!!!!!

With a brand new President coming into office, our economy in not so wonderful shape, TWO,COUNT THEM, TWO WARS going on and the middle east about to go KABOOM , Let's really sit back and think about our priorities.

Yeah THE FRICKIN BCS ranks right up there.

Now being that Rep Joe Barton is from Texas and his other Republican Co Hort is from Texas probably one of those Texas Univ got screwed in the past 10 yrs. Too damn bad fellas, I'm a Lions fan, while you tools are at it why don't you try to pass legislation to find out why my team has sucked since 1958. We haven't won a damn championship since your fellow Texan Bobby Layne quarterbacked this team.

That should qualify for at least a hearing right?

The really great thing is he states he isn't sure what he wants to replace it, just it need to be replaced!!!!!!!!

GENIUS!!!!!!!!!

It's great that to make this bi-partisan you got Rep Bobby Rush D-Illinois to take a step back from his ohhh so helpful comments on the Illinois senate mess to chime in on this one to.

If any one of this people should ever maneuver to get one of these bills to see the light of day on the floor of the house of representatives , I suggest bringing back Dick Cheney out of retirement to water board them on pay per view. Or making them watch Micheal Moore eat and shower until they apologize. All proceeds going to charity of course.

There are MUCH more important things to be doing than mess with this right now. When you have fixed the rest of the problems in the country we would love to have your input!!!!!!!!

I'm not holding my breath for that eventuality!!!!
